Let me just start out by saying I am in no way, shape or form a clock or watch expert but I do believe I have an eye for nice and unique things. Now with that said, I introduce to you the Asprey Grass Hopper Clock, which features carbon fiber.

For those of you who don’t know, Asprey is a British luxury brand that offers an extensive range of gifts including fine jewelry, watches, china, crystal, and more. They were even once the destination for crowns and coronets for royal families worldwide.

The Grass Hopper Clock is an English 8 day fusee timepiece that uses swinging bar balances and a grasshopper escapement.

“The grasshopper escapement is an unusual, low-friction escapement for pendulum clocks invented by British clock maker John Harrison around 1722. An escapement, part of every mechanical clock, is the mechanism that causes the clock’s gears to move forward by a fixed distance at regular intervals and also gives the pendulum (or the balance wheel) periodic pushes to keep it swinging. The grasshopper escapement was used in a few regulator clocks built during Harrison’s time, and a few others over the years, but has never seen wide use. The term “grasshopper” in this connection is apparently from the kicking action of the pallets.”

The clock utilizes carbon fiber on the base of the clock which adds the perfect look for this high-end and very expensive clock; $18,750 to be exact. And the entire clock is surrounded by a glass enclosing. If you have the cash to shell out for this gem, its available at Asprey’s three US locations in New York, Beverly Hills and Miami.
