Last year Ferrari held its 2011 World Design Contest, where design students from over 50 schools around the world, were given the challenge to design ‘a hypercar whose design reflects social changes and technical innovation without sacrificing the brand’s performance and iconic appearance.’

From November of 2010 until February 2011, over 400 projects were submitted to the Ferrari contest. The winners, three South Korean students from Hongik University, were awarded for their design called ‘eternità’ which from now on, we will refer to as ‘The Eternity”. The Eternity concept boasts a full carbon fiber body, to keep it light weight, covered with a lithium coating. It also features a highly advanced electric drive and traditional gasoline mode. “Maglev System Wheels” were also included to reduce friction and ensure the Eternity drives smoothly.

The three students who won, described the Eternity as ‘a 2-seater super barchetta which has light, layered carbon surfaces and the traditional f1 design heritage of Ferrari in a project focused on hyper-efficiency. We propose an innovative powertrain consisting of light-layered carbon surfaces, a physical flywheel energy storage system, superconductive motor which is both powerful and highly efficient, and hydrogen generator.’
