Feet don’t fail me now. Porsche and Adidas have reconvened for the fourth installment of their car-inspired kicks, the BOUNCE™:S4. And now, thanks to carbon fiber, these new school running shoes look to be springier and sturdier than their groundbreaking brethren.

Utilizing a streamlined version of Porsche Design Sport’s BOUNCE™ technology — which includes a car-like suspension system built into the back of the shoe — the two teams have combined minds to improve on its previous iterations by incorporating a high-tech carbon fiber plate right into the heel.

“From a design standpoint, one of our targets was to make the lightest BOUNCE™ shoe ever,”

says Jacques Chassaing, head of footwear design at Porsche Design.

They hit the mark by dropping the weight by about twenty percent thanks to carbon fiber and a revamped spring system that uses a polymer often seen in automobiles. Both additions not only make the shoe lighter, but they also add to its overall durability and minimalistic design.

The shoe boasts a host of other upgrades as well, including an aerodynamically designed mesh upper with 3D debossed lines and a grippy rubber soul. It also won a Plus X Award for its high quality design ergonomics and was honored at the same event as the 2014 Best Product of the Year.

Unfortunately though, they’re in short supply – the product is already sold out on the official website – so if you don’t have them already, you might want to see if Santa Claus can’t work his ways and magic a pair to put under your Christmas tree. Otherwise it might be a while before you’re able to put that extra pep in your step and take a jog in these swanky new running shoes.
