We’ve already talked about how Lamborghini intends to building lighter cars using carbon fiber composites.  They are not wasting any time for composites R&D, especially with the Murcielago replacement coming next year (Its steel frame is rumored to be replaced with a carbon fiber one).  They announced a new Advanced Composites Research Center (ACRC) at its own headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

They will specifically be research innovative design and production methods for carbon fiber elements.  The new center is comprised of two facilities covering an area of over 2,600 square meters and employing a team of 30 people.  While the facility has several autoclaves, they will actually be focusing their efforts on “out of autoclave” technologies.  One of those technologies is Resin Transfer Molding (RTM), whereby carbon-fiber structures are compressed under high pressure; or vacuum RTM, whereby resin is forced into carbon-fiber using negative pressure.
