Extensive Use Of Carbon Fiber In Vehicles Still A While Out
Autoblog had an interesting article explaining how extensive carbon fiber use in vehicles is still a good while out. In fact, GM used the Corvette ZR1 as a test to demonstrate the feasibility of using carbon fiber in mass production, as well as monitoring its degradation over time. The ZR1 has a carbon fiber roof, hood, front splitter, front fenders, side skirts, and spoiler.
Carbon fiber is a great material, but it’s still very expensive to produce. The hope is that over time more and more material will be used, therefore reducing the cost to the point where it can be used in everyday vehicles. It sounds like carbon fiber is here to stay, and we’re here to report the forefront of its coolest products ![]()
