The crazy Brazilians at Choate Carbon that made the $15,000 carbon fiber biometric scanner door are at it again.  The same client commissioned Choate to create a custom carbon fiber TV and table base/support in his kitchen:

Carbon fiber tv/base support

This support was not done for any sort of lightweight/performance reasons like the door (which used a lightweight honeycomb core), but instead utilized a patent-pending ADDON technique that Choate is developing.  The technique involves using one layer of carbon fiber sheet over wood to give whatever is being covered a carbon fiber look (using real carbon fiber).

Their technique is only applicable to flat wood surfaces, which made this project a perfect candidate.  Since it only needs one layer of carbon fiber and it’s fairly easy to apply (only going on flat surfaces, the cost is much more doable to the average consumer that may want to give something a real carbon fiber accent.  The cost of the carbon fiber piece only (without the glass table, tv, or chairs) was about $500.
