When I first read about this $300,000 cell phone, I figured it could do my taxes for me or at least fold my laundry, but I was wrong. The LeDIX Furtif, made by the Celsius X VI II group, is essentially a flip phone with a beautiful mechanical watch on the front, complete with a full carbon fiber body.

Celsius co-founder Edouard Meylan said this phone is for “people who have everything.” “They think, ‘just another watch, just another car?’ But if they find something different, it brings them emotions.”

And emotions it does bring, sad ones in fact, that I can only look, not own. The LeDIX Furtif is the second in the company’s line of semi-mechanical watch phones. Their goal is to eventually replace the electronic parts of the cell phone, with mechanical ones, which will take some time.

As previously stated,  LeDIX Furtif features a full carbon fiber body. “We’re using carbon fiber to create the entire structure, which has never been done before in the phone industry. It’s quite a challenge.” said Meylan.

This carbon fiber beauty also features the world’s most off-centered flying tourbillon, along with a 3.2-megapixel camera on its back. A tourbillon, for those who don’t know, is a complex mechanism that is used in watches to ensure the time stays accurate when the watch is held in various positions. While flip phones are pretty much an outdated technology, it seems that most of expense is due to the tourbillon with a solid carbon fiber casing.

The Celsius X VI II group is producing a first run of 32 LeDIX Furtif phones, 22 of which have already been sold. The Celsius X VI II group will also be showcasing the phone today (Thursday, March 8, 2012) at BaselWorld, the World Watch and Jewelery Show.
